Vol. 322 No. 10

Written Answers. - Kerry Housing.

279.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that Kerry County Council have 50 sites transferred and available for some time to re-house 50 applicants who are badly in need of housing; and, if so, when he will make the necessary finance available so that work can commence on these 50 sites.

I presume the Deputy is referring to sites which Kerry County Council have acquired for the housing of approved applicants for rural cottages.

On 14 March last the council were allocated £2,300,000 for their ongoing commitments at 31 December 1979 and for new work, including a number of rural cottages, to be started before 31 March last. The council have sought a further allocation to finance additional housing starts, including 35 rural cottages, before the 31 July next. The council's request is being considered in the context of the amount of capital available for the local authority housing construction programme, the number of such schemes in progress at the present time and the priority rating of the scheme. I cannot say when I will be in a position to convey a decision to the council.
