Written Answers. - County Cork Industries.

631.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy when the new factory on the 25 acre IDA site at Bandon, County Cork, will be (a) erected and (b) ready for occupation; (c) the number of people to be employed there; and (d) if the IDA have any further plans for the industrial development of Bandon.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that they have approved a joint venture between Telectron Ltd. an Irish company, and CIT-Alcatel, a French company, for grant assistance to manufacture digital switching equipment. The project, which will be located in Bandon, is expected to provide 412 jobs by 1985. Construction of the factory for the company is expected to commence early in 1982 on the 25 acre IDA site in Bandon.

The IDA are maintaining their efforts to secure the establishment of another suitable project or projects in that part of their Bandon site not required for the Telectron/CIT-Alcatel venture.

632.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the future plans the IDA have for the industrialisation of Skibbereen, County Cork; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that an overseas project, which commenced production at Skibbereen earlier this year and now employs over 70 people, plans to recruit a further 50 workers during the next 18 months or so.

The IDA are continuing their efforts to secure a replacement project for the former Fastnet Co-op premises in the town. While a number of overseas promoters have been brought to visit the factory, no firm proposals have emerged to date.

The Authority are also vigorously promoting their 17 acres in Skibbereen for suitable industrial development.

633.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy when the IDA factory at Clonakilty, County Cork, at present under construction will be completed; the number of people who will be employed there; and if the IDA have any plans in the immediate future to provide more factories there.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that the 7,000 sq. ft. advance factory which is under construction at present in Clonakilty is expected to be completed in mid-1982. This factory is being actively promoted for a suitable industrial project.

There are no plans for the provision of a further advance factory in the town.

634.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy when the filling of the factory and cluster units at Bantry, County Cork, will be completed; and the number of applicants for same.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that the 24,000 sq. ft. advance factory and the 4 × 3,000 sq. ft. cluster units at present under construction in Bantry, County Cork, by a private developer on behalf of the IDA will be completed in the first half of 1982.

The IDA are vigorously promoting these factories for suitable industrial projects.
