Vol. 331 No. 10

Written Answers. - Skibbereen (Cork) Company.

805.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that an American food company are interested in purchasing the premises of the Fastnet Co-op at Skibbereen, County Cork but cannot come to an agreement with the Irish Sugar Company on the purchase price; if he will now instruct the company to facilitate any potential industrialist in this matter and ensure that the prohibitive price being sought by them does not have the effect of depriving Skibbereen of such an industry.

I understand from Comhlucht Siúicre Éireann Teo that this property belongs at present to the Fastnet Co-op and is due to be transferred soon to the company. The sale of the premises by the company is a commercial matter and any decisions in this regard fall to be taken by the company. As the Deputy will appreciate, it would be inappropriate therefore for me to intervene, as he suggests. I am, however, assured by the company that all prices quoted are negotiable.
