Vol. 331 No. 12

Written Answers. - County Donegal Education Centre.

54.

asked the Minister for Education the proposals his Department have for the staffing of the outdoor education centre at Gartan, County Donegal.

The outdoor education centre has been provided at Gartan Lough with financial assistance from the Department under the national programme for the provision of recreational facilities. This development is based on the reconstruction — renovation of an existing building situated on the shores of Lough Gartan in the Lough Veigh Estate. The project is sponsored at local level by County Donegal Vocational Education Committee which is responsible for the management and maintenance of the centre. A grant of £68,500 was allocated towards this project — £63,500 has been paid to date. Of the £68,500 made available £51,500 was allocated from Employment Guarantee Fund moneys and the balance of £17,000 was provided from the Department's voted funds, Vote 33, Subhead A. Recently I was happy to allocate a further grant of £22,000 towards equipping the centre.

The question of the appointment of staff to outdoor education centres, including Gartan Lough, County Donegal, is at present under consideration in my Department and I would hope for progress at an early date.
