Vol. 333 No. 6

Written Answers. - Clare Pier.

220.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider having the pier at Doolin, County Clare re-constructed so that berthing facilities will be rendered safe in view of the increasing tourist traffic to the Aran Islands, with resulting financial benefits to the islanders of the need and the furthering of spoken Irish, and also of the need to eliminate the necessity of bringing the boat to Liscannor or Ballyvaughan for berthing, when conditions are rough.

The Commissioners of Public Works are investigating proposals for the improvement of the landing facilities at Doolin harbour in the fisheries interest. A survey has been carried out and a report and drawings are being prepared. The commissioners expect to furnish their proposals to the Department of Fisheries and Forestry later this year.
