Written Answers. - National Schools.

832.

asked the Minister for Education the position in relation to the payment of grants to the school manager, Filemore national school, Caherciveen, County Kerry in respect of repairs to the school and the provision of school furniture.

My Department have recently sanctioned a grant towards the cost of works to Filemore national school, County Kerry. Payment of this grant is a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works. I understand from the commissioners that they hope to make an initial payment in the near future. Payment of the grant for the furniture authorised for the school will be made by my Department when the receipted account is submitted through the district inspector.

833.

asked the Minister for Education when the post of caretaker at St. Mary's national girl's school. The Bower, Athlone, County Westmeath will be sanctioned.

The provision made in Vote 30, subhead C.9. in respect of grants towards the employment of caretakers in national schools for 1982 is fully committed. Accordingly, it is not possible to accede to the request for the establishment of such a post in St. Mary's girls' national school, Athlone.

834.

asked the Minister for Education when he will give instructions for the commencement of the new national school at Duncannon, County Wexford.

My Department are considering a recent report by their inspector on the future enrolment trends in Duncannon national school with a view to an early decision on proceeding to request the Commissioners of Public Works to prepare working drawings for the proposed new school.

835.

asked the Minister for Education when he will give instructions for the commencement of the extension to St. Iberius national school, Wexford.

It is proposed to extend St. Iberius national school, Wexford, by building two new classrooms and a general purposes room and converting the two existing small classrooms to a single room. Tenders for this project were invited on 10 February 1982 and they are at present being examined by the Commissioners of Public Works. As soon as the commissioners have completed their examination of the tenders I will be in a position to decide on releasing the project to contract.

836.

asked the Minister for Education the decision taken by his Department on the application by the manager of Churchtown national school, County Kildare for improvements there.

The Commissioners of Public Works are being asked to furnish a report on the question of carrying out repairs to roof and floors of Churchtown national school, County Kildare. The question of the provision of additional facilities such as a utility/remedial room and additional works will be kept under review in the light of the future enrolment position at the school.

837.

asked the Minister for Education the present position in relation to the proposal to provide a new national school at Lettermore, County Galway.

It is proposed to build a new two-classroom school with extended general purposes room at Lettermore, County Galway. The Commissioners of Public Works have been asked to say whether the sketch scheme drawn up in 1977 to cater for a three-classroom school might now be adapted to suit the smaller school.

838.

asked the Minister for Education the present position in regard to an application from St. Vincent de Paul girls' national school, Griffith Avenue, Dublin for general purpose rooms; whether the application has been approved; if so, the reason for the delays in proceeding with the work; and if he will give sympathetic consideration to the application.

In June 1981 my Department authorised the Reverend Chairman to engage his own architect for a project to provide a general purposes room to be shared between St. Vincent de Paul girls' and infant primary schools, Marino. I understand that sketch-plans have not yet been submitted to the Commissioners of Public Works for approval.

My Department's inspector reported recently that the Reverend Chairman now wishes to provide separate general purposes rooms, one at each school. This report is under consideration at present. I anticipate an early decision in the matter.
