asked the Minister for Transport if he will give further details of the direct requests made by the Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre for British aircraft or helicopters since the reply to a similar question on 29 April 1980; if British aircraft undertake this work in the absence of a direct request; and, if so, if he will give details of the number of such operations.

The "Nimrod" is a fixed-wing search aircraft.
