Vol. 334 No. 4

Written Answers. - Medical Student Places.

829.

asked the Minister for Education the number of places available for medical students in the coming year; if he will confirm reports that he is planning to reduce the number of students by 50 per cent; and if he will give details of his policy on medical school places.

In October 1978, the Higher Education Authority submitted to the Ministers for Health and Education a report on the number of students in medical schools. The recommendation in the report in regard to the number of students to be admitted to the various medical schools in 1980-81 and subsequent years is being implemented by the HEA in consultation with the colleges concerned. No change has been made in that position. The number of students enrolled in pre-medical year in 1981-82 is 471 and the projected number for 1982-83 is 461.
