Vol. 334 No. 5

Written Answers. - Water Rights Order.

159.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position in relation to the proposed public inquiry into the proposal for a water rights order for the Gort regional water scheme in County Galway.

Galway County Council have submitted an application to me for a provisional order enabling them to take a supply of water from Lough Cutra for the Gort regional water supply scheme. It is understood that the council are unable to acquire the lands needed for the implementation of the scheme by agreement and intend to make a compulsory purchase order. My Department must await the submission of the compulsory purchase proposals so that the various aspects of the project on which I am called to adjudicate may be taken together, including the holding of necessary inquiries, so there will be no danger of a decision on one aspect being prejudiced by an earlier decision on another.
