asked the Minister for Justice the up-to-date plans in relation to the Probation Hostel for young offenders at Audley Place, Cork.

Work on the renovation and adaptation of the Probation Hostel at Audley Place, Cork, is due to commence this week. I hope that the hostel will be ready to receive youths on probation by the beginning of 1983.

Mr. De Rossa

asked the Minister for Justice the per capita annual cost to the State of keeping a young person in Loughan House Prison.

Loughan House Special School accommodates about 25 boys on average at present. Taking all current expenditure into account (i.e. the cost of the high level of staffing, victualling etc. but not capital costs), the expenditure per boy in 1981 worked out at about £51,600.
