Vol. 334 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Roscommon Water Scheme.

147.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a start will be made on the North Roscommon regional water supply scheme; if a supply of water will be provided from this scheme for the Monastaraden group water supply scheme; and when work will commence on the Monastaraden group supply scheme.

The local authority's proposals for this scheme must be considered in the context of the amount of capital available for water and sewerage schemes and the number of such schemes in progress or getting to construction at present for which adequate finance must be provided. I cannot as yet indicate when I will be in a position to approve the tenders for the North Roscommon Regional Water Supply Scheme which are under consideration in my Department or when work may commence. I understand that, on completion of the public water scheme, which terminates at Ballaghadereen, a supply will be made available to the Monastaraden group water scheme via on extension to the border with County Sligo which will be carried out by group scheme development in County Roscommon.
