asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position regarding the Independent Curriculum and Examinations Board.

asked the Minister for Education if he intends to introduce a general matriculation examination for those students who wish to enter third level colleges; if so, who will be responsible for the following: (i) laying down the curriculum to be followed; (ii) setting examination papers and (iii) organising the marking of such papers; and when such changes will be introduced.

asked the Minister for Education if he intends to replace the present leaving certificate curriculum with a more general one; and, if so, when.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 876, 882, and 883 together.

Submissions were invited from interested parties on the question of the establishment of an Independent Curriculum and Examinations Board. I shall give due attention to the question of the suitability of the existing leaving certificate curriculum in connection with my consideration of such submissions.
