Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - Foreign Submarine Incursions.

369.

asked the Minister for Defence if, in view of recent concern regarding foreign submarine incursions, he will re-examine the equipment available to the Naval Service to detect, track and apprehend submarines; and which vessels can depth-charge submarines as he stated was the normal course of action in reply to a previous question.

As indicated in reply to a similar question on 18 May last, vessels of the Naval Service are fitted with appropriate equipment for the task of surveillance of Irish territorial waters. In the interests of security it would be contrary to established practice to furnish detailed particulars of such equipment. The review of defensive equipment is an ongoing activity in my Department.
