I am not yet in a position to give my decision on this order but will do so as soon as possible.
In view of the fact that this road is in a deplorable condition would the Minister use his good offices to speed up the necessary decision?
I am aware that it is in a deplorable condition. I have received representations from a number of Labour councillors in the area. I can tell the Deputy that the transcript of the proceedings of the public hearing was sent to the inspector who held the inquiry on 13 January 1983 and his report is awaited. But there are reperesentations in the Department and I will report on them as soon as I possibly can.
In the course of replying the Minister referred to the fact that representations had been made by Labour Deputies. If the Minister looks at the file I am sure he will find that representations were made by other Deputies, apart from Labour Deputies. Will the Minister ensure that the money necessary to put this road into proper condition will be made available on receipt of the result of the inquiry?
When the inquiry report is completed and when we have taken a decision in relation to the final form of the CPO, I will do everything I can to ensure that the money is made available. I am aware how urgent it is.
I can take it, then, that the Minister will not allow this matter to drag on. Is the Minister also aware that £100,000 was made available by his predecessor to get this work under way, that that money is still available for this work and will he ensure that the extra necessary finance is also made available to reconstruct this road as quickly as possible?
I will do everything in my power to ensure that the necessary moneys are available as soon as the documentation is completed and the report confirmed.
