Vol. 340 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Schools Transport.

34.

asked the Minister for Education the estimated number of students in County Kerry who benefited under the free school transport scheme during the school year 1981-82; and the total number that will benefit under the scheme during the present school term.

About 9,200 pupils were availing of free school transport to schools in County Kerry in June 1982.

Processing of applications for continuing school transport for the present school term has not been completed.

Does the Minister anticipate a substantial drop in the number of children who will qualify under this scheme in Kerry in view of the recent changes?

I am not aware of any substantial drop and I sincerely hope there will not be one.
