Vol. 340 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cavan—Monaghan Advance Factories.

9.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the present position in regard to advance factories in Cavan-Monaghan; and the likelihood of new industries for the area.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that its 7,000 sq. ft. factory at Ballyconnell, County Cavan, is reserved for the Tufted Products (Irl.) Limited project which plans to employ 30 people at full production. The position as regards the other factories in County Cavan is that there is a 3,200 sq. ft. advance factory being constructed in Swanlinbar and a 24,000 sq. ft. factory is being constructed, under a private finance arrangement with the IDA, in Cavan town.

In County Monaghan the IDA have a 2×3,000 sq. ft. cluster unit at Castle-blayney, a 3×3,000 sq. ft. cluster unit under construction at Clones and a 25,000 sq. ft. advance factory and 3× 3,000 cluster unit in Monaghan town.

All available factories are being promoted for suitable industry.

In 1982 the IDA approved 45 projects with a job potential of 320 for County Cavan and 44 projects with a job potential of 493 for County Monaghan.

Will the Minister give an assurance that en route to Donegal he will do the neighbourly thing and promote strongly his neighbouring county of Cavan for industrial development?

Yes, in fact I am very interested in the prospects of the county of Cavan which abuts my own territory.
