Vol. 342 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Land.

21.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the damage being caused to lands surrounding the Leenankeel river, Clonmany, County Donegal; and if he will make a limited sum available towards the removal of obstructions as this is not a major job but would benefit the small farmers in the area to a major degree.

Drainage of the Leenankeel river could be undertaken by the Commissioners of Public Works only as part of a comprehensive drainage scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945 for the catchment as a whole. The catchment area of this river which is small, is not included in the arterial drainage programme nor are there plans to consider it for treatment under the Act. There are no funds in the Vote for Public Works and Buildings out of which a grant of moneys for the works requested might be made.
