Vol. 342 No. 7

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

705.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange for an immediate investigation of a telephone account for the last quarter of 1982 for persons (details supplied) in County Dublin; and if he will arrange to have the meter checked.

This account was rechecked and found to be correct as issued. The meter has been checked and found to be in good working order.

706.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided as a matter of urgency for a person (details supplied) in County Kerry as he requires it for business reasons as he is a professional musician.

Service will be provided as soon as possible for the person named but it is unlikely that the necessary engineering work can be completed before the end of this year.

707.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the long delay in erecting a public telephone kiosk location (details supplied) at Bothar, Cuas, Ballydavid PO, Tralee, County Kerry, under the county council's guarantee scheme.

The delay in providing this kiosk has been due partly to the need to make available a suitable circuit to Dingle exchange and partly to a temporary shortage of kiosk structures. It is expected that the kiosk will be in service later this year.

708.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when Ballyferriter and Ballydavid telephone exchanges, County Kerry, will be automated.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the telephone of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 will be repaired.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a public telephone kiosk will be erected at Ahikista, Durrus, County Cork, as approval was given almost three years ago.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when canopies will be installed over the public telephones in Ballymun shopping centre, Dublin 11, to ensure some measure of privacy when calls are being made; when telephone directories will be provided there; how often these coin boxes are emptied; and if steps will be taken to empty them more often.

The question of replacing canopies in Ballymun shopping centre which were recovered because of excessive vandalism is being considered. Telephone directories for these telephones are at present held in the security hut in the shopping centre which is close by. A notice to this effect will be provided shortly. These coin boxes are emptied four times a week at present. More frequent collections will be arranged if necessary.

712.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a working telephone will be installed in the telephone kiosk which was erected in Barnacullia, County Dublin, four months ago; and the reason for the delay in providing service.

It is expected that a payphone will be provided in the kiosk at Barnacullia during the third quarter of 1983. The delay in providing service to the kiosk has been due to the need to carry out major cabling work to Dundrum exchange.

713.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason a person (details supplied) in County Dublin who applied for a telephone 4½ years ago approximately and who needs it for business purposes is still waiting for service when neighbours have had telephones installed over the last few months and weeks and whose applications were for private use only; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

It has not been possible to provide service so far for the person named because there is no spare cable pair to serve the address. Service will be provided as soon as possible but it is unlikely that the necessary engineering work can be completed before the end of this year. Telephone service has been provided for some earlier and/or priority applicants in the road named for whom the necessary plant was available.

714.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when telephones will be provided for residents in Broadford Hill, Dundrum, Dublin 14.

Telephone service has been provided for applicants in Broadford Hill.

715.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason a telephone service has not been provided for a person (details supplied) in County Offaly as she applied four years ago.

It has not been possible to provide service so far for the person named because of the extent of the line work involved and the large volume of engineering work on hands and requiring attention in the area. It is expected that service will be provided towards the end of this year.

716.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will repair as a matter of urgency the post office box at Summerhill, Wexford, which has had no door for three months and which is consequently causing great hardship in that people have to walk great distances to avail themselves of other telephone facilities.

The door of the box was damaged beyond repair and it has not been possible to obtain a replacement door. A new box will be provided within the next week or so.

717.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone kiosk which has been passed and sanctioned will be provided at Townpark Estate, Navan, County Meath.
