Vol. 343 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tallaght, County Dublin, Garda Strength.

634.

asked the Minister for Justice if there are any proposals to place more experienced gardaí in Tallaght, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick East): I am informed by the Garda authorities that Garda strength at Tallaght station has been increased from 46 on 30 May 1982 to 77 on 7 June 1983. This significant increase has been made possible by the allocation of newly trained gardaí who, though their practical experience is of course limited, have undergone training in all aspects of Garda work.

Nevertheless, it is accepted that these new members may require more guidance than experienced gardaí would require. Four additional sergeants have been assigned to Tallaght within the past fortnight and I am confident that, together with the experienced members already serving at the station, they will provide the necessary guidance and on-the-job training for the new gardaí.
