Vol. 348 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Kildare Clinic.

375.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of reports in newspapers and on Radio Éireann that a surgical clinic is to be built in Clane, County Kildare; if the site for the clinic was bought from a home for the aged, (details supplied) in County Kildare; if the Eastern Health Board granted planning permission for the clinic; the precise nature of the planning permission; and if he has been consulted on the matter.

I am aware of such reports. I understand that the site in question adjoins the site of a home for the aged in County Kildare. I am not aware of the details of how the site was acquired.

To my knowledge, the proposals involve a private facility. I, as Minister for Health, or the Eastern Health Board, do not have any function, at present, in relation to the establishment of such private facilities unless it is proposed to engage in the provision of maternity services, psychiatric services or services for incapacitated persons.
