Vol. 351 No. 8

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

460.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will arrange for the immediate payment of a £1,000 new house grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application for a new house grant from the person named at the address given. An application has, however, been received from a person of the same name but with a slightly different address and the grant will be paid shortly in this case.

461.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will arrange for the immediate payment of a £1,000 new house grant to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The grant was paid in this case on 8 June 1984.

462.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether or not a grant has been paid on behalf of a person (details supplied) in County Limerick towards involvement in a group water scheme in his district.

A domestic group scheme grant was paid to the trustees of the Feohanagh Castlemahon group in respect of a person bearing the same name and with the same address as that referred to by the Deputy. This matter is the subject of correspondence with the group.

463.

asked the Minister for the Environment the average delay between the submission date of an application for a grant for house improvement and the actual giving of approval by the departmental engineer to proceed with it for house improvement scheme applicants.

Generally, the average time lapse between the receipt of an application and the carrying out of a first inspection is estimated to be four to six weeks; the exact time in particular cases depends on a number of factors, the principal one being the inspector's workload at the time an inspection is requested. Apart from the general position it is inevitable, given the volume of applications received, that there will arise from time to time individual cases where a longer period than the average may arise.

Mr. J. Collins

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of applicants for home improvement grants that have been turned down because of the fact that work had been started on the improvements before approval to go ahead was given by the departmental engineer.

The information requested is not readily available in my Department. Records of rejected applications are not segregated on the basis of the grounds for rejection and with the available staff resources it would not be possible to have this information extracted without seriously affecting the processing of day-to-day work.

465.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a £1,000 housing grant will be paid to persons (details supplied) in County Louth; and the reason for delay in payment.

A grant will be paid when an inspection establishes that the house is satisfactorily completed and occupied and that all the conditions applying to the grant scheme have been complied with. There has been no undue delay in dealing with this case. While the application was received in September 1983, the documentation necessary to process it was not received until March 1984. The file was referred to my Department's inspector in April 1984 and the inspection will be carried out as soon as possible.

466.

asked the Minister for the Environment if a £1,000 new house grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

My Department are awaiting the submission of evidence of planning permission which the person named has been requested to provide. On receipt of this document an inspection will be arranged with a view to payment of the grant.

467.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a house improvement grant of £1,000 will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

There is no record in my Department of the receipt of an application for a house improvement grant from the person named. There is, however, an application from a person of the same surname and address to whom grants amounting to £1,000 were paid recently.
