Vol. 354 No. 1

Written Answers. - AnCO Training Courses.

730.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will give details of the monetary compensation paid to lecturers engaged in AnCO Courses at Limerick, Waterford, Dublin, Cork and other centres throughout the country; the number of lecturers engaged in each centre; the nature of the work performed and the duration of the courses involved; and the total amount paid to lecturers.

I take it that the Deputy is referring to courses provided by the external training division of AnCO. Private consultants, other training organisations and educational bodies are engaged on a fee basis by AnCO to augment the services provided through its training centres.

The areas of training covered include enterprise courses, business skills courses, community based courses and management courses. All the courses are full time and are for unemployed persons. On average courses have a duration of 15 weeks and a class size of some 24 trainees.

The total training fee per week paid to an external training organisation works out at about £1,400 on average and is intended to cover course design time, premises, training equipment course materials, tutors, administration backup, heating and lighting etc., travel by course personnel to/from course, travel to/from in-company trainees projects and evaluation/consultation time with AnCO. Fees paid to tutors on such courses are a matter for the external training organisation concerned.
