Vol. 361 No. 9

Written Answers. - Salmon Drift Net Licences.

30.

asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry if he is aware of the general dissatisfaction with the operation of the regulations governing the issue of salmon drift net licences; and if he has any proposals to deal with the situation.

Salmon drift net licences are issued annually by the regional fisheries boards under the Control of Fishing for Salmon Order, 1980, as amended by the Control of Fishing for Salmon Order, 1982. I am aware that in some instances the fisheries boards experience difficulty in allocating licences in accordance with the requirements of the orders and accordingly I am having the relevant orders reviewed by my Department in consultation with the Central Fisheries Board with a view to developing a more simplified procedure for licence allocation.

Question No. 31 taken as oral.
