Vol. 362 No. 1

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aid to Farmers.

13.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will outline details of aid, if any, which will be available to grain farmers in east Cork who have suffered severe losses due to the extremely inclement weather conditions of the summer of 1985.

31.

asked the Minister for Agriculture his proposals to help the many grain growers who were affected by the bad weather earlier this year and who suffered serious crop losses.

36.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will outline details, if any, of aid which will be made available to tillage farmers in County Donegal, who have suffered as a result of this summer's weather conditions.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 13, 31 and 36 together. I have been examining the possibility of providing some assistance for farmers whose crops were seriously damaged by the adverse weather conditions during the summer and autumn and I hope to make an announcement shortly on the matter.

(Limerick West): Will it be positive?

I hope so. I am anxious that tillage farmers generally should get some assistance.

(Limerick West): Would the Minister like to give us details?

I hope to give tillage farmers some assistance in the form of loans at reduced interest rates. Of course, they will not be as much as people would like.

Will there be AIB loans or loans from the European Investment Bank? Will they be at 5 per cent?
