The information available to the Department covers the insured population as a whole. In any one year this includes persons who worked and paid PRSI during that year and also persons who were in receipt of benefit for that year and received credited contributions. The total number of insured persons on this basis was approximately 1,171,950 in 1983-84 and 1,173,990 in 1984-85. Data for 1985-86 are not yet available.
