Vol. 363 No. 6

Written Answers. - Local Authority Audits.

29.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will take steps to ensure that audits are carried out as soon as possible on local authority finances (details supplied), and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The unusual delay in completing this audit and issuing the audit report was due mainly to the need to investigate particular circumstances which arose in the course of the audit. Arrangements are currently being made for the early undertaking of a comprehensive review of the local government audit service. One of the objectives of this review is to expedite the carrying out of such audits.
