Vol. 368 No. 10

Written Answers. - Garda Uniforms.

69.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline where material including cloth, buttons, etc. in Garda uniforms are manufactured; and if he will make a statement on this important matter.

As the Deputy may be aware a change of uniform for the Garda is in process. The cloth to be used in the new uniform is manufactured in the State. The contract for the supply of buttons and badges is with an Irish company but the items themselves are manufactured abroad. The Irish firms who tendered for these items were unable to quote competitively. Chevrons and buckles for the Garda uniforms are being manufactured in the State.
