asked the Minister for Finance (a) the present number of staff employed by the farm classification office i.e. land tax office; (b) the number of farmers classified to date; (c) the total expenditure of the farm classification office from commencement to the end of July 1986; (d) the average cost to classify a farm to date, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The information sought by the Deputy is as follows (a) The present number of staff employed by the farm classification office is 246, of whom 125 are employed on short term contracts; (b) The number of holdings assessed at the latest available date was 3409; (c) The total expenditure of the farm classification office from commencement to the end of July 1986 was £4,096,000; (d) The average cost of classifying land to date has been less than £4 per gross acre.
