Vol. 371 No. 8

Written Answers. - Galway Airport Project.

62.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the plans, if any, he has to make the necessary funding available for the completion of the airport project (details supplied) in County Galway.

I have no plans to provide further financial assistance for the development of Carnmore airport.

Substantial financial assistance for the project has already been provided by the Exchequer. Approval was given in November 1986 for an additional grant of nearly £63,000 for lighting at the airport, bringing the level of capital grants committed for the airport's development to £1 million of which nearly £900,000 has already been paid to the company.

The level of State financial assistance for the project has been generous and in the present difficult budgetary position it would not be possible for me to agree to any further capital grants for the airport.
