asked the Minister for Education (a) the number of girls resident in Cuan Mhuire Assessment Centre special school; (b) the age group for admission to this institution; (c) the number of places provided in this institution; and (d) the breakdown of reasons for commital to this institution of present residents.

Cuan Mhuire, Collins Avenue, Whitehall, Dublin 9 is a remand and assessment centre for girls. The centre is certified as a place of detention under the 1908 Children Act and can accommodate up to ten girls in the 12 to 16 years age group. Girls can be referred to the centre through the courts or by the health boards and the five girls at present in residence have all been referred by the health boards.
