On a point of order, will the Chair clarify whether the Order of Business just agreed takes immediate effect, and if it does, whether that will affect what we understood to be this party's entitlement to move a Private Member's Bill on Oireachtas pensions, the week after next? Is that now to be set to one side?

That is not a matter for the Chair. No. 7 please.

On the Order of Business——

On a point of order.

On the Order of Business——

I have now called the next business. It is agreed?

(Interruptions.)

Deputy Cullen, please.

(Interruptions.)

On the Order of Business——

I have gone on to other business.

I have been trying to get in for the last 15 minutes on this. On the Order of Business will the Taoiseach make a statement to clarify the position regarding the proposed grants by the IDA to Goodman Meat Industries?

Deputy Brady, the Minister of State, has moved motions in regard to the appointment of committees. Are motions Nos. 7 to 12 agreed?

No and I would like to try to explain why. I have no objection to the committee so far as——

Sorry, Deputy O'Malley. This House has already decided that these matters shall be dealt with without debate.

(Interruptions.)

Is it not a great Parliament, Sir? It decides matters without debate. Is it any wonder that this House is looked upon as irrelevant and that institutions outside of it are more relevant and important, when we cannot even discuss our own business in this House because of collusion between the Government and the main Opposition?

Is motion No. 7 agreed?

(Interruptions.)

On a point of order, a Cheann Comhairle——

(Interruptions.)

A brief point of order?

Deputy Keating, the Chair is putting the question.

(Interruptions.)

A brief point of order, please.

The Chair may not be interrupted in putting a question.

May I respectfully ask you for a brief point of order?

If the Deputy persists in continually barracking the Chair, I shall have to——

(Interruptions.)

Will the Chair draw a distinction between a debate and making observations?

I have put the question.

You are supposed to be impartial.

(Interruptions.)

I have taken enough from Deputy Keating today.

Deputies

Hear, hear.

I do not intend to be silenced. All I asked you to do was to simply draw a distinction between a debate and somebody making two sentences of explanation of their attitude which is not reasonable.

The Chair does not intend to be intimidated by you.

I do not intend that.

I am putting the question that the motion in regard to the appointment of Committees is hereby agreed.

(Interruptions.)

Would you hear a brief point of order?

(Interruptions.)
