Vol. 373 No. 12

Written Answers. - Procedure for Recording Crimes.

39.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will replace the present informal method by which complainants make complaints at Garda stations concerning crimes, by official forms which would be numbered in sequence and provide for carbon copies to be given to the complainant in the interests of reliable methods of recording reported offences; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The procedure for recording reports of crimes made to Garda stations is a matter of internal Garda administration. I will bring the Deputy's suggestion to the attention of the Garda authorities for their consideration. I should say, however, that I am not aware that existing procedures are in any way defective.
