Vol. 374 No. 9

Written Answers. - Teacher Voluntary Redundancy Scheme.

51.

asked the Minister for Education the exact terms of the voluntary redundancy scheme for teachers announced by her on 22 October 1987; and their estimated cost in 1988.

210.

asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the voluntary redundancy scheme offered to teachers recently; if she will give her views on whether or not the scheme favours teachers who are new into the system or those who have been in the system for a long time; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 51 and 210 together.

The benefits payable under the terms of the voluntary redundancy early retirement scheme for teachers will be in line with those payable in other areas of the public sector.

The matter of the application of the scheme to the teaching sector is currently being examined by my Department in consultation with the relevant interests. Pending completion of this examination it is not possible to indicate the precise terms of the scheme nor the estimated cost in 1988.
