Vol. 375 No. 3

Written Answers. - Botanic Gardens Admission Charges.

22.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will make a statement regarding the intention to charge entrance fees into the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin 9 from January of 1988; if extra staff will be employed for the collection and administration of these charges; if he will consider an exemption of charges for those who are pensioners or unwaged taking into account that the gardens are used by these categories especially during the weekdays; and the scale of charges he intends to implement.

The Government have decided in principle to introduce admission charges to the National Botanic Gardens as from 1 January 1988. Proposals in relation to the level of such charges, including exemption for certain categories, are at present under consideration and an announcement will be made in due course. There are no proposals to employ extra staff in connection with the charges.
