Vol. 376 No. 10

Written Answers. - Cattle Slaughterings Levies.

25.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the amount of income he expects from the Abattoirs Bill, 1987 provision under sections 51 and 52 which seeks to impose disease eradication levies on cattle slaughtered for domestic consumption.

Levies under the Bovine Diseases (Levies) Act, 1979 and the Coras Beostoic agus Feola Act, 1979 have been payable on all cattle slaughterings at both export meat plants and domestic abattoirs since their introduction in 1979.

Sections 51 and 52 of the Abattoirs Bill, 1987 merely provide for technical amendments to those Acts consequent on the new licensing provisions contained in that Bill. These sections do not impose any new liability for payment of levies.
