Vol. 378 No. 6

Written Answers. - Time Recording Systems in Prisons.

105.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider spending the £60,000 allocated for a new time recording system for staff at Mountjoy jail, Dublin 7 on improving facilities for both staff and inmates there; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The introduction of electronic time recording systems in the prisons and places of detention is taking place following full discussion between the Prison Officers' Association and my Department under the Conciliation and Arbitration Scheme and I am satisfied that the system represents a cost-effective use of resources, taking all the needs of the prison system into account.
