asked the Minister for Finance the number of positions in his Department vacant as a result of the restriction on promotions within the Civil Service; and if it is envisaged that any or all of these will be filled within the foreseeable future.
Written Answers. - Departmental Vacancies.
As a result of the restriction on promotions within the Civil Service which was introduced in March, 1987 a total of 131 positions have become vacant in my Department and in the offices under my aegis. A breakdown of these 131 vacancies is given in the table below.
The question of whether some of these vacancies might be filled in the foreseeable future is under consideration; the filling of vacancies could be achieved either through redeployment from within the Public Sector or through promotions.
