Vol. 379 No. 2

Written Answers. - Ice Plant Programme.

61.

asked the Minister for the Marine if he will ensure that the ice plant proposed by his Department in conjunction with BIM for the Youghal, Cobh, Ballycotton areas in County Cork is established without delay, as under EC regulations fishermen are obliged to have adequate supplies of ice at their respective ports.

I am optimistic that, on completion of the current comprehensive review of BIM's entire ice plant programme, the board will be enabled to place their ice plant programme on a more competitive and rationalised footing and that the provision of ice-making facilities at strategically important locations will be significantly accelerated.

There are no EC regulations governing the supply of ice.
