Vol. 379 No. 5

Written Answers. - Cash Withdrawal Cards Charge.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance if, in the light of representations from a wide variety of interests concerning the dangers and problems arising from the £10 charge on cash withdrawal cards, he will consider some other way of raising this revenue, particularly in view of the fact that there has been a move in recent years to try to encourage staff to save by means of these cards and to accept payment by way of credit transfer thus the security problems arising from this tax might outweigh the other possible revenue benefits; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The implementation of the proposed duty is being considered at present in the context of the preparation of the Finance Bill and the views and anxieties expressed by various parties will be borne in mind.
