asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a statement on a recently published study by the Consumers Association of Ireland with regard to the destruction of the ozone layer; and the action he is taking arising from this report.

I intend to introduce this session a motion in the Dáil noting the terms of the Vienna Convention on the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer. This motion will clear the way for joining the Convention and Protocol which are designed to control the use of those substances which have been found to have adverse modifying effects on the ozone layer. The motion will provide an opportunity for a debate on all aspects of the problem.
