Vol. 379 No. 6

Written Answers. - Second-Level Education Subjects.

302.

asked the Minister for Education if any subjects other than Irish are compulsory at the senior cycle of second-level education under the rules of her Department.

The Rules and Programme for Secondary Schools state that the approved course for recognised senior pupils must include not fewer than five of the subjects available on the course, of which one must be Irish. Provision exists in the Rules for Children of Political Refugees from countries abroad or for children whose primary education up to 11 years of age was received in Northern Ireland or outside Ireland to be allowed to substitute any other subject from the list of approved subjects for Irish.
