Vol. 380 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Liability.

39.

asked the Minister for Finance whether the tax affairs of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 16 are up-to-date; if he is entitled to an increased tax free allowance; if he is entitled to a rebate; and if so, when same will be rectified.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the taxpayer took up employment on 14 March, 1988 having been unemployed for a period of 27 months. He has been requested by the inspector of taxes to furnish details of his pay and tax deducted for the period during which he worked in 1987-88. On receipt of this information the inspector will review his liability for that year and arrange to refund any tax overpaid by him.

An updated tax-free allowance certificate for the current year, 1988-89, will be issued to the taxpayer shortly. Any tax overdeducted from his earnings since 6 April last will be refundable to him by his employer when this certificate is put into operation.
