asked the Minister for the Marine if an application has been made to his Department for the erection of cages in any lakes in County Galway; and if so, if he will give details of all applications.

To date, 17 applications have been received for permission to place cages in lakes in County Galway for the culture of salmon and trout. Nine of these applications have been approved by my Department. The other eight are still under consideration.

Details of the projects approved are as follows: Tullymountain Salmon Farm, Lough Fee; Emerald Fisheries, Lough Nafooey*; Paul Somerville, Lough Fadda; Screebe Fisheries, Lough Ahalia South; Camus Fisheries, Lettercraffoe Lough; Muir Gael Teo., Lough Skannive; Bradan Mara Teo., Lough Shannive, Lough Sheedagh; Ardbear Sea Farms, Beagauneen Lake.

*Approved but planning permission refused. Amended application now being processed.
