Vol. 380 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

70.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will re-examine and review an application for unemployment assistance for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

Following reinvestigation, the unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned was disallowed on the grounds that, by failing to furnish details of her means, she failed to show that her means did not exceed the statutory limit.

She appealed against this decision and on 9 March 1988, an appeals officer disallowed her claim on the grounds that her means derived from the benefit from her spouse's income exceeded the statutory limit in her case. She continued to sign the unemployed register. On 7 April 1988 she asked for her claim to be reviewed and her papers were referred to a social welfare officer for reinvestigation of means. These inquiries will be completed shortly and her case will then be submitted to a deciding officier for assessment of her means.

The entitlement of the person concerned to unemployment assistance will be reviewed in the light of that assessment.

71.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will make an early decision on an unemployment assistance appeal submitted by a person (details supplied) in County Kildare.

Following investigation of the unemployment assistance claim of the person concerned, he was assessed with means of £17.50 weekly derived from the value of capital. He is, accordingly, in receipt of unemployment assistance of £45.70 weekly, being the appropriate maximum rate payable in his case of £63.20 less means of £17.50.

He appealed against the assessment on 25 February 1988 and his case has been referred to an appeals officer for determination at the earliest available opportunity. His entitlement to unemployment assistance will be reviewed in the light of the outcome of the appeal.

72.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a disability benefit appeal of a person (details supplied) in County Louth will be heard.

The person concerned was paid disability benefit to 14 March 1988 after which date payment was disallowed following an examination by a medical referee who expressed the opinion that she was capable of work.

She appealed against the disallowance and arrangements have been made to have her examined by a different medical referee on 18 May 1988. Her entitlement to benefit will then be reviewed in the light of the medical referee's report.

73.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when an invalidity benefit will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford.

Invalidity pension is payable to insured persons who satisfy the contribution conditions and who are permanently incapable of work.

Arrangements have been made to have the person concerned examined by a medical referee on 12 May 1988. His entitlement to invalidity pension will be reviewed in the light of the report of this examination.
