Vol. 380 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Cork School Transport.

108.

asked the Minister for Education if she will consider granting school transport to the children of a person (details supplied) in County Cork who are attending Ballykerwick national school, County Cork.

As explained in my reply of 15 March to the Deputy's previous question on this matter, the pupil in question lives two miles from her nearest school, Rylane NS. She is, therefore, eligible for transport to that school while she is under ten years of age. However, as there is no service from this area to Ryland, she may be allowed concessionary fare-paying transport to Ballykerwick from the existing route of the service to this school.

It has been stated in previous representations that this child's nearest school, by means of a right of way, is Barrachauring closed school, which amalgamated with Ballykerwick NS. This has been investigated by Bus Éireann who have found that the right of way has not been in use for many years. It may not, therefore, be taken into account in establishing the distance of the child's home from her nearest school.
