Vol. 382 No. 1

Written Answers. - Issue of Penal Warrants.

70.

asked the Minister for Justice the numbers of warrants waiting to be issued in each Garda district in the Dublin Metropolitan area; and if his attention has been drawn to the backlog of 4,000 in the Tallaght district, Dublin 24 where preliminary figures reveal a 15 per cent increase in crime over the corresponding period of 1987.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the number of penal warrants on hands and awaiting execution on 10 June 1988 in each of the Garda districts in the Dublin Metropolitan Area is as set out in the table below and that the number for the Tallaght sub-district was 3,940. The Garda authorities stress that these figures are provisional because of the fact that warrants are issued and executed daily.

With regard to the crime figures for the Tallaght area I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 35 on 9 June.
