Vol. 383 No. 1

Written Answers. - Stockbroking Legislation.

83.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has any proposal to introduce legislation to regulate and recognise the profession of stockbroker.

Stockbrokers operate under the aegis of the Stock Exchange. Existing legislation provides for a licensing system for stock-brokers dealing in Government securities on commission and provides that the rules of the Stock Exchange require the approval of the Minister for Finance. My Department, in consultation, with the Central Bank, are currently reviewing the operation and structure of the market in Government securities and, in that context, I will be reviewing the question of amending existing legislation.
