Vol. 383 No. 2

Written Answers. - Drainage Work Grants.

70.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will grant an extension of time to farmers in the western package area to complete drainage works for grant purposes into 1989 in view of appalling weather conditions.

The western drainage scheme was due to expire on 31 December 1986. After difficult negotiations, I succeeded in obtaining a two year extension to enable those applicants with approvals issued prior to that date to complete their work. There can accordingly be no further extension of time limits allowed and all applicants with outstanding approvals have been informed that work must be completed by the end of the present month if they are to benefit under the scheme.
