51.

asked the Minister for Justice the total authorised establishment and total actual numbers of civil servants serving in his Department in each of the general Civil Service grades from clerical assistant to secretary on 1 September for each of the years 1985 to 1988 inclusive or on the latest date for which such information is available; and the total number taking all categories together of civil servants authorised and serving in his Department on those dates.

The information sought by the Deputy is set out in the following statements.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the total authorised establishment and total actual numbers of civil servants serving in his Department in each of the general Civil Service grades from clerical assistant to secretary on 1 September for each of the years 1985 to 1988 inclusive or on the latest date for which such information is available; and the total number taking all categories together of civil servants authorised and serving in his Department on those dates.

The Department of Tourism and Transport was established in March 1987 as a result of a reallocation of ministerial functions which involved a combination of the tourism function (previously the responsibility of the Department of Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry) and the transport function (Previously the responsibility of the Department of Communications).

The following statement sets out the information requested by the Deputy in respect of 1987 and 1988.
