Question:

43 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Defence the number of established positions of (a) cleaner, (b) messenger and (c) porter which exist in his Department; the number of vacancies which have remained unfilled because of the embargo; the present number of vacancies; the number which are capable of being filled; the number which have been filled since 1 January 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are 16 cleaners and 15 messengers serving in my Department at present; the Department do not employ porters. Since the embargo was imposed in 1987 six vacancies for cleaner and eight vacancies for messenger have remained unfilled. There are no vacancies in either grade capable of being filled at present and no vacancy has been filled since 1 January 1990.
